RIO GRANDE, Ohio - The University of Rio Grande's 4x100 relay team ran to a fourth place finish, while Connor Messer had a pair of Top 10 outings to lead the RedStorm at the Rust Buster Invitational, Saturday afternoon, in Knoxville, Tenn.
The relay unit - comprised of junior Juan Cummings (Mason, OH), freshman Brandon Massey (Waxhaw, N.C.), junior Arthur Dunkley (Akron, OH) and junior Clinton Campbell (Malta, OH) - posted a time of 42.90, finishing behind NCAA Division I schools Oakland and Charlotte and fellow NAIA member Tennessee Wesleyan.
Campbell also finished sixth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.47.
Messer, a freshman from Ashland, Ky., placed seventh in the pole vault after clearing 13-09.25 and was 10th in the high jump with an effort of 6-02.00.
Rio's other Top 10 performance came from senior Floyd Lowry (St. Paris, OH), who was 10th in the 400 hurdles with a time of 58.03.
Also on Saturday, the RedStorm had a handful of athletes participate in the Collegiate Outdoor Open at Cedarville University and senior Isaac Andrews (Nelsonville, OH) placed fifth in the shot put with a heave of 46-01.25.
Rio Grande is scheduled to return to action next weekend at the VertKlasse Meeting in High Point, N.C.
