FINDLAY, Ohio - Tyanna Petty set a new school record and met the "A" qualifying standard in the 600-meter run to highlight the University of Rio Grande women's track & field performance at Friday's Meet for Everyone hosted by Findlay University.
Petty, a junior from Somerset, Ohio, took the top spot in the 600 with a time of 1:37.15, surpassing the previous Rio record of 1:38.98, set by Cassie Mattia in 2010.
The mark also met the "A" standard for the upcoming NAIA National Indoor Track & Field Championships, which are set for March 2-4 in Johnson City, Tenn.
Petty also finished first in the high jump after clearing 1.64m and was also first in the 60-meter dash preliminaries with a time of 9.30. She did not participate in the finals.
Seven other athletes representing the RedStorm recorded new personal records during the event.
The new personal-best showings came from senior Clarissa Kosnich (Hillsboro, OH), who was second in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:46.68; junior Emili Sannes (Carlisle, OH), who was third in the 600-meter run after finishing in 1:46.80; sophomore Kayla Charmichael (Newark, OH), who was ninth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.02 and 10th in the 60-meter dash after finishing in 8.36; senior Katie Roberts (Vinton, OH), who was ninth in the shot put with a heave of 12.84m; sophomore Lucy Williams (Athens, OH), who placed 10th in the 3,000-meter run after crossing in 10:52.59; freshman Maria Fondale (New Lexington, OH), who grabbed 11th place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.58; and freshman Kelsey Miller (Georgetown, OH), who was 14th in the 1-mile run after finishing in 6:08.32.
Rio also got Top 10 outings from freshman Marissa Commons (Maple Heights, OH), who was fourth in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:59.78 and freshman Allison McNeal (Logan, OH), who was 10th in the shot put with a heave covering 12.47m.
The meet, which concluded the RedStorm's 2017 indoor schedule, was not team-scored.
