Rio Grande/NAIA Sports Information
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – For the first time in more than six years, the University of Rio Grande men's cross country team finds itself ranked in the NAIA Top 25.
The RedStorm are 17th in the final coaches' poll of the 2016 season announced Wednesday by the national office.
The final ranking was determined by the team finish in last weekend's NAIA National Championship meet in Elsah, Ill.
Head coach Bob Willey's squad - one of three newcomers to the final poll - had been among the schools receiving votes in each of the past three rankings.
Rio Grande has not been ranked in the Top 25 since August 25, 2010, when the RedStorm checked in at No. 24.
Southern Oregon claimed the No. 1 ranking after winning its second national championship at North Farm Cross Country Course.
Runner-up St. Francis (Ill.) earned the No. 2 ranking for the fourth straight edition.
Rounding out the top five were British Columbia, the College of Idaho and The Master's (Calif.)
Sixteen of the 21 conferences/Association of Independent Institutions are represented in the Top 25.
