PORTSMOUTH, Ohio - Maddie Woodard and Olivia Ball each had a goal and an assist as Shawnee State University pulled away in the second half for a 4-0 win over the University of Rio Grande, Wednesday afternoon, in non-conference women's soccer action at Shawnee Turf.
The Bears picked up their fifth straight victory after opening the season at 0-4-2.
Rio Grande, which fell for the fourth time in its last five outings, dropped to 3-10-2 with the loss.
Woodard scored an unassisted marker just 13:22 into the contest to give SSU a 1-0 lead and that's how things stayed until a second half flurry of three goals in a span of just over 10-1/2 minutes put the victory on ice.
Ball scored off an assist by Clarissa McKinney with 15:28 left to play to make it 2-0.
Eight minutes later, Charity Collins pushed the lead to 3-0 with an unassisted goal and Jenny Campbell set the final score on a goal assisted by both Ball and Woodard with 4:46 remaining.
