BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Tuany Miguel scored two goals and assisted on another, while Carla Delgado also scored twice to lead Union College in a 4-2 win over the University of Rio Grande, Saturday night, in non-conference women's soccer action at Williamson Stadium.
The Bulldogs upped their record to 5-6 with the victory.
Rio Grande, which was playing its final non-conference match of the season, slipped to 2-8-2 with a second straight loss.
Union enjoyed a 3-1 lead at the intermission, scoring all of its goals in a span of just under eight minutes - including the final two just 14 seconds apart.
Delgado scored off the assist by Miguel with 13:13 left in the opening stanza to make it 1-0 and found the net with 5:59 remaining pushing the rebound of a missed shot past Rio freshman net-minder Andrea Vera (Quito, Ecuador).
Just 14 seconds later, Miguel scored the first of her goals on a penalty kick to extend the Bulldogs' lead.
Rio Grande got on the board with just 45 seconds left before the break when senior Jenna Jones (Lancaster, OH) drilled a free kick into the back of the net to get the RedStorm within 3-1.
Jones scored again on a penalty kick with 16:36 left in the contest to make things interesting, but Union held on and sealed the win on an unassisted marker by Miguel with 6:06 left to play.
The Bulldogs finished with a 17-8 edge in shots - including a 10-4 cushion in the first half - but had just a 9-7 advantage in shots on goal.
Kendall Ellington had four saves in a route-going performance in goal for UC.
Vera had three saves for Rio before giving way at halftime to fellow freshman Alli Jones (Chillicothe, OH), who was credited with a pair of saves over the final 45 minutes.
Rio Grande returns to action on Thursday night against West Virginia University Tech at the YMCA/Paul Cline Memorial Complex in Beckley, W.Va. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
