RedStorm women's soccer inks first recruit
Rio Grande --- The University of Rio Grande RedStorm women's soccer team is pleased to announce the signing of Alexandria Davis of Teays Valley High School to a national letter of intent to play soccer for the RedStorm beginning in the fall of 2010.
Davis is the first signing by head coach Amber Oliver so far this off-season.
Davis, a 5'8" forward, comes to Rio Grande after a stellar career for Teays Valley. She was the Mid-State League's Player of the Year as a senior and was also named 2nd team All-Central District. Davis made 1st team All-MSL three consecutive years and was 3rd team all-district as a sophomore and junior.
She made 2nd team All-MSL as a freshman and was Teays Valley's Most Valuable Player all four years.
Davis expressed excitement about signing with Rio Grande. "My feelings are that I am excited to have signed and I am looking forward to playing soccer for Rio Grande," she said. "I liked the university, and when I went down to practice I really liked the girls and the program as a whole."
Oliver is pleased to have Davis in the fold. "I am very excited to be signing Alex as a member of our 2010 RedStorm women's soccer team," Oliver said. "She will make a huge impact on our offensive attack."
Davis discussed her strengths and weaknesses as a player. "I think my best asset is that I can kick dominantly with both feet and I'm a great team player as well," Davis said. "I need to work on being more selfish (with the ball) and beating defenders on the dribble."
Oliver gives an assessment of her newest recruit. "Alex is a very skilled player that has the ability and desire to win every ball. Her best asset as a player is her ability to take on defenders and her capability to create on and off the ball," she said. "I look for Alex to make an immediate impact on our team in the upcoming season."
Davis has set some very team oriented goals for herself as she prepares to play for Rio Grande. "(I want to) improve myself as a soccer player and to be an excellent teammate and hopefully make the team better as a whole."
She plans to major in business management.
Alexandria is the daughter of Jeff and Caroline Davis of Ashville, Ohio.
