Mattia falls short of qualifying for finals in 600 at national meet

Johnson City, Tn. ---University of Rio Grande junior middle distance runner Cassie Mattia finished 24th overall (out of 31) in the women's 600-meter dash and failed to qualify for the finals at the NAIA Indooor National Championships on Friday afternoon. Mattia registered a time of 1:40.12. 
 

Mattia had an outstanding season leading up to the national meet. She set a new school record in the 600 at Findlay, January 30 with a time of 1:41.92. Two weeks later she topped her school best mark at DePauw with a time of 1:38.98. 

 

Mattia was ranked 33rd in the 600 heading into the meet.

 

Mattia and the rest of the RedStorm will now get ready for the outdoor season, which begins March 19-20 at the Wake Forest Open.
