RedStorm lose opener

Chicago, IL---The University of Rio Grande RedStorm men's soccer team, ranked No. 2 in the NAIA Pre-season poll, opened the 2009 campaign with a loss. The RedStorm lost 1-0 at St. Xavier (IL) on Friday Night.

Rio Grande (0-1) had 22 shots and 13 shots on goal, but could not find the back of the net. St. Xavier (1-1) goalkeeper Ian Pickett was the star of the game as he recorded 13 saves on the night.  

Al Palar scored the lone goal of the game off a free kick in the 17^th minute and St. X made it hold up. 

 

Rio sophomore goalkeeper Jordan Lower (South Webster, OH) performed well despite the loss. He stopped five shots.

 

Rio Grande will travel to Illinois Tech on Saturday night. Kick-off is set for 8 p.m.
