RedStorm win at Malone

Canton, Oh. --- The University of Rio Grande RedStorm women's basketball team knocked off Malone University for the second time this season with a73-59 victory on Wednesday evening at Osborne Hall in the final game of the Canton Classic. 

Rio Grande (9-6) led throughout the game and held a 40-27 advantage at halftime. The RedStorm pushed the lead to as high as 15 points in the second half.  

Junior forward Leah Kendro (Strongsville, OH) paced the Rio attack with 18 points. Junior guard Jenna Smith (Bellefontaine, OH) added 16 points and dished out three assists. They were the only two players to score in double figures for Rio Grande. Junior center Ashley Saunders (Amanda, OH) was the top rebounder for the RedStorm, pulling down eight rebounds. 

Allyson Wilson led Malone (3-11) with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Amy Kittle added 16 points and pulled down seven boards. 

Rio did an excellent job possessing the basketball, committing only 14 turnovers for the game compared to 21 for the Pioneers. 

Rio snapped a two-game losing skid with the back-to-back wins in Canton.

Rio will open the 2010 portion of the schedule on the road at Urbana University, January 7 at 7 p.m. Stretch Internet will have play-by-play coverage beginning at 6:45 p.m.
