RedStorm lose second straight

Georgetown, Ky. --- The University of Rio Grande RedStorm women's basketball team, playing perhaps it's toughest stretch of the season, lost for the second straight time at the Jim Reid Classic at Georgetown College. Rio fell to Siena Heights 82-66 on Friday afternoon in the first round of the classic.

 

Rio Grande (5-4) did manage to place three players in double figures led by junior forward Leah Kendro (Strongsville, OH) with 21 points. Junior point guard Bre Davis (Marietta, OH) had her best scoring game of the season with 15 points and junior guard Jenna Smith (Bellefontaine, OH) added 12 points

 

Siena Heights (6-2) controlled the game most of the day, jumping out to a 47-33 halftime advantage. Siena Heights rolled up 55 points in the second half.

 

Tanci Levit led Siena Heights with 21 points while Shalaha Hubbard added 19 points. Erin Cassidy chipped in 14 points to go along with seven rebounds and Chandler Levit tossed in 13 points. 

 

Shooting percentage and rebounding were the keys to the game for Siena Heights in taking down Rio Grande. Siena Heights shot 53.6 percent (30-of-56) from the field, including connecting on 11-of-20 (55 percent) from three-point land. Rio was out-rebounded 41-19. 

 

Rio was only to hit on 39.6 percent (21-of-53) of it shots for the game.

 

Rio takes on NAIA Division II perennial power College of the Ozarks on Saturday at the Jim Reid Classic. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
