Rio softball to bring back winter indoor league

Rio Grande---The University of Rio Grande softball program is once again having a high school winter indoor softball league for players in grades 9-12.

The league will run from January 3 through February 21, 2010. The games will be played on Sunday afternoons.

The focus of the league is to offer any softball player the opportunity to further develop their skills and in a competitive program.

All games will be either seven innings or 1 hour, 15 minutes whichever comes first. All players will be in the batting order unless a player elects not to hit and all hitters will begin with a 1-1 count.

All Ohio High School and West Virginia Softball Association rules will be followed with the exception of unlimited re-entry for defense. No player will sit consecutive innings. 


The teams will be coached by members of the Rio Grande softball team. Teams will consist of 10 players with eight on defense. High school coaches are welcome to attend and participate. College coaches are also invited to attend. 

Players will be issued a T-shirt, but must provide the remainder of their uniform.

The cost is $70 per player and checks are payable to University of Rio Grande softball.

Deadline to sign up is December 22 and is limited to the first 100 players.
