Sherman and others claim MSC awards
FRANKFORT, Ky. - University of Rio Grande freshman middle hitter Erin Sherman was honored for her play on the court while four of her teammates claimed academic awards at the Mid-South Conference Awards Night Banquet on Monday night at the Capital Plaza Ball Room in Frankfort.
The 12-woman team was voted on by the MSC coaches. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own players.
Sophomore Kristen Cassady (Logan, OH), junior Ashley Bloom (Columbus, OH), junior Kati Moore (Lancaster, OH) and junior Rachel Walker (Ironton, OH) were among 44 volleyball student-athletes who were recognized as Academic All Mid-South Conference. The distinction is reserved for student-athletes with a sophomore or higher class ranking and a 3.25 and above grade point average. The Mid-South Conference Volleyball Tournament begins at 1 p.m. ET on Tuesday at the Frankfort Civic Center. The tournament schedule follows; No. 2-seed Campbellsville vs. No. 7-seed St. Catharine -- 1 p.m. ET No. 3-seed Rio Grande vs. No. 6-seed Pikeville -- 3 p.m. ET No. 4-seed Lindsey Wilson vs. No. 5-seed Cumberlands -- 5 p.m. ET No. 1-seed Georgetown vs. No. 8-seed West Virginia Tech -- 7 p.m. ET The semifinals and finals are scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 11.
