RedStorm women runner-up at MSC Championships
Louisville, Ky. --- The University of Rio Grande RedStorm women's cross country team ran exceptionally well on Saturday morning at the Mid-South Conference Championships but fell short of winning the title. Instead they had to settle for the second spot behind The University of the Cumberlands at the meet held at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park.
 

Rio Grande scored 47 points, missing the title by a mere five points. Campbellsville University finished third with 62 points while Lindsey Wilson College ended in fourth with 83 points.

Sophomore Kayla Renner, was the top Rio finisher, crossing the line in 3rd place and covering the 5-kilometer course in 19:56. Renner just edged teammate Stacey Arnett (Laurelville, OH), who was fourth with a time of 19L56. Junior Cassie Mattia (West Chester, OH) also landed in the top 10 finishing 10th overall (20:47).

Other RedStorm results: sophomore Molly Roark (South Webster, OH), 14th (21:08), freshman Amy Lower (Lancaster, OH), 16th (21:12), freshman Holly Haines (McConnellsville, OH), 28th (22:31) and sophomore Danielle Stockham (London, OH), 31st (22:51).

There were 56 runners in the women's race. 

Georgetown (109), Pikeville College (177) and St. Catharine College (215) rounded out the seven-team field.

Renner and Arnett qualified for the 30th Women's NAIA Cross Country National Championships in Vancouver, Wash.

Renner, Arnett and Mattia all earned All-MSC honors.

After the race, the Mid-South Conference held a banquet to recognize the Academic All-MSC award winners.  Arnett, Mattia, junior Tracy Newcomer (Findlay, OH) and Roark  were among the 24 runners who were recognized as Academic All Mid-South Conference. The distinction is reserved for student-athletes with a sophomore or higher class ranking and a 3.25 and above grade point average.

The NAIA National Cross Country Meet will be held November 21.
