Mid-South Conference
LOUISVILLE, Ky.--University of Rio Grande's Jack Marchant and Cumberland University's Harry Mason are the Mid-South Conference Men's Soccer Players of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.
The weekly honor is Marchant's second of the season and second of his career. For Mason, the weekly honor is his first of the season and of his career.
Marchant recorded a shutout in his only match last week to earn Mid-South Defensive Player of the Week.
The Leeds, England, senior goalkeeper finished with two saves to record his third shutout of the season in the RedStorm's 5-0 win over Campbellsville University.
Marchant leads the MSC and ranks third in the NAIA with a 0.63 goals against average this season.
No. 1-ranked Rio Grande is 12-1 overall and leads the MSC with an 8-0 record.
It is the second straight week that a Rio Grande player has received the defensive award. Sophomore goalie Jon Dodson (Tiffin, OH) won the award last week.
Mason scored six goals in a pair of Cumberland wins to earn Mid-South Offensive Player of the Week.
The Sutton Coldfield, England, junior midfielder found the back of the net twice in the Bulldogs' 5-1 win over St. Catharine College to begin his week.
Mason scored four goals in a 6-1 win over University of the Pikeville to help Cumberland run its winning streak to four straight. Of his four goals, three came in a three-minute stretch midway through the first half to secure the win. The four-goal performance marks the third time this season Mason has scored three or more goals in a game.
Mason is third in the Mid-South this season in points (32) and tied for second in goals (14). He also is tied for 11th in the MSC with four assists.
With last week's wins, Cumberland improves to 5-8-1 overall and 3-5 in the Mid-South.
