LOUISVILLE, Ky.--Bluefield College's Erik Albarran and University of Rio Grande's Jon Dodson are the Mid-South Conference Men's Soccer Players of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.
The weekly honors are the first of the season and of their careers for Albarran and Dodson.    Dodson recorded a shutout and was part of another last week to earn Mid-South Defensive Player of the Week.
The Tiffin, Ohio, sophomore goalkeeper came off the bench to play the final 59 minutes in the RedStorm's 1-0 double overtime win over Shawnee State University. Dodson stopped four Bear shots in the win.
Dodson followed up with his first shutout of the season in Rio Grande's 13-0 win over Pikeville. He ended the game with two saves to secure the clean sheet.
This season, Dodson has six saves without allowing a goal in five matches.
No. 1-ranked Rio Grande is 11-1 overall and leads the MSC with a 7-0 record.
Albarran scored four goals in two Bluefield wins to earn MSC Offensive Player of the Week.
The Houston, Texas, freshman midfielder scored his first career hat-trick in a come-from-behind 6-4 win over University of Pikeville to begin the week. Albarran contributed the lone goal in the Rams' 1-0 win over St. Catharine College to run the Bluefield winning streak to three straight matches.
Albarran is tied for third in the MSC with 12 goals and sixth in the conference with 26 points this season. Nationally, he ranks 23rd in total goals and 21st with three game-winning goals.
Bluefield improves to 7-7 overall this season and 3-3 in the MSC with last week's wins.
