LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Rio Grande's Richard Isberner and Campbellsville University's Max Malachiyev are the Mid-South Conference Men's Soccer Players of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.
The weekly honors are the first of the season for both Isberner and Malachiyev. The award is Isberner's eighth of his career and Malachiyev's first.
Isberner scored four goals and assisted on two others to earn MSC Offensive Player of the Week.
The Sao Paulo, Brazil, senior forward recorded duplicate 2-goal, 1-assist performances in wins over University of the Cumberlands and Georgetown College last week.
The 10 points enabled the RedStorm to run their winning streak to seven straight and remain perfect in the Mid-South Conference.
Isberner is tied for fifth in the MSC in points (14) and goals (6) this season.
No. 2-ranked Rio Grande moves to 7-1 overall on the season and 3-0 in the conference.
Malachiyev recorded a pair of shutouts last week to earn the Mid-South's Defensive Player of the Week.
The Bowling Green, Ky., freshman goalkeeper stopped a pair of shots in the Tigers' 4-0 win over Cumberland University to open the week.
Malachiyev's four saves were instrumental in Campbellsville's double-overtime scoreless tie with Mid-Continent University to end the week.
This season, Malachiyev ranks third in the MSC with a 1.43 goals against average. His 22 saves are seventh best in the conference.
Following their games last week, the Tigers are 5-3-1 overall and 1-1 in the Mid-South Conference.
