BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Sofie Jorgensen's goal with just under 13 minutes to play snapped a scoreless tie and lifted Union College to a 1-0 win over the University of Rio Grande, Saturday afternoon, in women's soccer action at Burch/Nau Field. Jorgensen took control of the ball from 30 yards out and then let loose with a shot from 10 yards away which found its way past Rio junior goalkeeper Hannah Stickelman (Ontario, OH) with 12:48 remaining in the contest.
The RedStorm, who slipped to 0-2 with a second consecutive shutout loss, managed just four shots in the game-all in the second half. Only one of the four shots was on goal.
Stephanie Burton recorded one save in goal for the Bulldogs (1-0), who had 16 shots of their own.
Stickelman was credited with four saves in a losing cause for Rio Grande.
The RedStorm return to action on Wednesday night, hosting West Liberty State (W.Va.) in their home opener at Evan E. Davis Field. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
