RICHMOND, Ky. - Earlier this month, University of Rio Grande senior Cassie Mattia broke a 32-year-old school record in the women's 800-meter run.
The new record didn't last nearly as long. Mattia, a native of West Chester, Ohio, turned in a school-best time of 2:14.71 in her second place finish at last Saturday's Eastern Kentucky Open, hosted by Eastern Kentucky University.
Two weeks ago at the Miami Invitational in Oxford, Ohio, Mattia finished in 2:14.94, bettering the previous school-best mark of 2:15.20 set by Rio Grande Athletic Hall of Famer Perri Martin in 1980.
