RedStorm men picked 4th; women 5th

Louisville, Ky. --- The University of Rio Grande RedStorm men's cross country team has been picked to finish 4th in the preseason Mid-South Conference poll as selected by the conference coaches. The RedStorm women have been tabbed to finish 5th.

Rio Grande returns nearly everybody from a year ago on both teams and the coaching staff has added a quality group of newcomers.

The RedStorm collected 22 points, including one first-place vote while the women totaled 18 points.

 

The University of the Cumberlands men's cross country team is the favorite to win the conference. The 12-time and defending champion Patriots received 36 points, including six of the seven first-place votes. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own team.

 

Lindsey Wilson College is second in the voting with 30 points and Georgetown College is third after receiving 23 points.

 

Campbellsville University (18 points), Pikeville College (11) and West Virginia Tech (7) round out the poll.

 

The RedStorm finished 8th out of 13 teams a season ago in the American Mideast Conference.

 

On the women's side, Lindsey Wilson College is the favorite in the Mid-South Conference.

 

The Blue Raiders received 32 points, including three first-place votes to edge second place Campbellsville University by a single point.

 

Campbellsville won its' first MSC title last year. The Tigers received 31 points in the poll, including three first-place votes. Georgetown College is projected the finish third with 25 points, including one first-place vote. University of the Cumberlands is predicted to finish fourth after receiving 22 points.

 

Pikeville College (13 points) and West Virginia Tech (6) are sixth and seventh respectively behind Rio Grande.

 

The RedStorm women finished 10th out 14 last season in the American Mideast Conference.

 

The cross country season kicks off September 19 for Rio Grande at the Friendship Invitational in Cedarville . The Mid-South Conference Championships are scheduled for November 7 in Louisville.
